Country opportunity
A simple view of population, disability and golf participation before considering the potential opportunity.
WHO's 16% global estimate is used as a starting point. Change the prevalence above when a reliable national figure is available.

Golf participationChoose the measure and amend the country figure if needed
How this works: the number of golfers is divided by the total population to calculate the country's golf participation rate. That rate is then applied to the estimated population with a disability to show the equivalent golf participation opportunity. This is a planning benchmark, not an estimate of how many golfers with a disability currently play.
Five-year ambitionSet a level you are comfortable with as a five-year plan
Choose the proportion of the equivalent golf participation opportunity you believe could realistically be reached over five years. For example, if the equivalent opportunity is 15,000 people, a 10% ambition represents 1,500 potential new golfers.
Spending assumptionStart with the lower benchmark and refine if appropriate
The calculation starts with the lower annual spending benchmark of £840 for an average regular golfer. If appropriate for your planning, you can increase this towards £3,265, the average annual spend recorded among players on the EDGA database.

What could the G4D opportunity look like?
The calculation first shows the equivalent golf participation opportunity, then applies the selected five-year ambition. These are planning illustrations, not forecasts.

Potential new golfers based on reaching 10% of the equivalent participation opportunity.
Illustrative annual spending potential using the selected annual spend per golfer. The calculation starts with the lower £840 benchmark.
Methodology and sourcesHow the figures are produced
- Population: World Bank, Population, total (SP.POP.TOTL). A 2024 country snapshot is stored directly in this page so the tool works without a live API connection. For the United States, the U.S. Census Bureau July 2024 population estimate is used. Where the World Bank does not publish a separate series for a territory or constituent nation, the population shown in The R&A 2024 country table is used and identified on screen.
- Disability: World Health Organization. A 16% global estimate is used as a fallback and can be replaced with a reliable national figure. For the United States, the 2024 U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey estimate is used.
- Golf participation: The R&A, Global Golf Participation 2024, report produced June 2025, is used for countries covered by its regional country tables. For the United States, the page uses 2024 USGA Handicap Index data as the registered-style measure and National Golf Foundation 2024 on-course participation as the broader active-golfer measure.
- Spending: Sporting Insights research with EDGA, 2025. The lower benchmark is £840 average annual spend for a regular golfer, with £3,265 as the average annual spend recorded among players on the EDGA database. The page starts at £840 and allows the assumption to be increased up to £3,265.
All opportunity and spending outputs are planning illustrations. They should not be interpreted as forecasts.
